Porcelain Crowns

porcelain crowns palm bay floridaDental porcelain crowns are tooth-shaped caps that are placed over a prepared tooth, restoring its shape, size, and strength. No longer do patients have to settle with the unsightly black line or graying of the gum around a crown. Porcelain avoids the use of corrosive non-precious metals that can cause this. If your particular situation requires the use of a metal base for your porcelain crown, know that we use only the highest quality precious metals when making your crown.

At the first visit in preparation for a crown, we will examine your teeth and take a few X-rays. Before the process of making a crown begins, we will numb the tooth and surrounding gums using a local anesthetic. The tooth receiving the crown will be shaped, making room for the crown to be placed over top.

After the tooth is reshaped, we will digitally scan the tooth. A temporary crown will be placed on the tooth until we receive the porcelain crown. At a subsequent visit,  we will remove the temporary crown and check the fit and color of your new porcelain crown and the new crown will be permanently cemented in place.

At Ultimate Smile Design, we have thoroughly evaluated the one-visit crowns and have found them lacking. Please discuss this with us if you have any questions.

Dental porcelain crowns provide a better natural color match than any other crown alternative. These crowns can be used for back and/or front teeth. Crowned teeth do not require any special care, other than your typical good hygiene practices.
